August
|
Our novice challenge showjumping team of Pippa Vos, Connie
and Megan Isaac, and Molly Watson put up a super performance
at the nationals held in Cheshire last weekend (27/28th August).
Out of 47 teams, they carried only 4 faults from each round to finish
on a total of 8 and end up in 15th place.
It was all four girls' very first attempt at the championships,
they all rode beautifully and I was extemely proud of them! (Written

Polo report 2010
|
Max Carew writes:
Our Tiverton Jorrocks team have had a wonderful summer. They played
valiantly throughout, came first at Frampton and Vaux and then entered
theChampionships in division 1.
They were narrowly beaten by the CotswoldFoxes, at a very competitive
Hurtwood final but claimed second prize. Theyloved their new shirts
and I think all of the Tiverton Pony Club would havebeen proud of
their team spirit, sportsmanship and effort!

Area 15 Showjumping, Moorhen Farm, 3rd August
|
Jane Phillips has provided the following Novice Team report:
Tiverton Hunt entered two teams for the area 15 novice showjumping
qualifier at Moorhen Farm on 3/8/10. The 'A' team members were Pippa
Vos, Connie and Megan Isaac and Molly Watson;
and the 'B' team members were Gemma Murphy, Withheld,
Nell Baillie and Josie Vos.
This class had a huge entry of 21 teams, and the girls were challenged
with a technical track with related distances and tricky fences
off of corners. The arena party were kept very busy! After round
one, Tiverton A were very much in contention with only 4 faults
to carry, and Tiverton B on 13 faults, Nell having a clear round
and a single time fault for Josie, with Gemma and Maddie having
good rounds on inexperienced horses.
A zero score in round two elevated the 'A' team into joint first
place and a third round jump off between Tiverton, Cotley and Axe
Vale was needed to decide placings. With only two teams able to
qualify, the pressure was immense! Drawn first, Tiverton set the
standard with Pippa jumping her third clear round of the day, Connie
went for time but had faults to discard, Megan produced her second
and much needed clear and Molly was desperately unlucky to roll
her only pole of the day but at a good pace. After a nail-biting
wait, Tiverton were placed second, only beaten a few seconds by
Cotley and clinched their ticket to Cheshire.
A huge well done to the riders, parents and helpers in both teams,
it was a very long day with lots of waitng, although it did mean
we had time to celebrate Molly's birthday as the photo shows!

Area 15 Eventing: Tiverton Pony Club Open Team
off to the UK Championships, and more!
|
The Open Eventing Team of David Hodnett, Cobi
Lawrence, Rupert Batting and Kate Kittow competed
at the Area 15 competition held at Treborough, near Wheddon Cross,
producing consistent rounds by all four members in dressage, showjumping
& all clear cross country, cementing their qualification to
represent the Devon and Somerset region at the Pony Club Championships
to be held at Draycott House Derbyshire on 16th August. David also
took home the coveted 1st Prize as an individual. This is the second
year in a row Tiverton has qualified an Open Team for the Eventing,
considered by many to be the most challenging discipline at the
Championships.
|

David Hodnett
|

Rupert Batting
|
| The Intermediate Eventing Team of
Katie Paul, Alexa Batting, Nicola Palfrey &
Emma Selby performed well, finishing in 4th place, but missed
out on qualification. However, Katie put on a faultless performance,
winning the Class and thereby gaining automatic qualification for
the Championships in Derbyshire along with the Open Team. Individuals
Emily Mayes and Katie English both completed, with Emily
gaining a creditable 4th place, just missing out on qualification. |

Katie English Qualifies for the Tetrathlon Nationals
for the 2nd year running
|
Katie writes:
Last weekend (10.07.10) I travelled up to Stonar School in Wiltshire
for the area Tetrathlon competition as the sole representative of
Tiverton Pony Club. My shoot wasn't my strongest but I made up for
it with a strong swim and a good run despite extremely hot weather
conditions (although I was cooled down very effectively with a bucket
of water!) I also managed a fast clear round over a tough track
despite Lola having had a long time off. This meant that at the
end of the weekend out of Area 15 I finished 4th and also had the
best swim meaning I have qualified for Nationals in August.
I would like to say a massive thank you to Paul Furneaux for all
his help at the weekend and to him and Mo Furneaux for all their
training and behind the scenes work and also to Heather Greenslade
for all her support and help.

Team Showjumping, 13th June, Knowstone
|
What a fantastic result our Tiverton members had on Sunday 13th
June at Knowstone when we sent a talented teams of minis who all
did us proud.
In class 1 10 years and under a team of Rosie Heard, Henry
Clist, Polly Muirhead and Georgina Wood all rode
like little pros to take the top spot with Henry 2nd and Rosie 3rd
taking the individual placing's.
In class 2, 14years and under, the team of Harri Pick, Tabitha
Pring, Georgina Wood and Lucy Clist went into
the ring knowing all of Tivertons teams had won their classes!!
But the girls didn't disappoint and rode out of their skins to grab
1st place, with Billy Greene and Megan Isaac also
having good individual rounds, Harri taking 1st place individual
and Tabitha 3rd.
Class 3, novice, was an up to height course with some of our minis
never jumping that big before in competion, so a big pat on the
back to you all. A team of Harri Pick, Tabitha Pring,
Georgina Wood and Billy Greene went in and gave it
there best shot, and what a result: they grabbed 2nd place just
behind Tiverton Junior team with Tabitha taking 1st individual
and Harri 5th. Well done to everyone .

Domestic archaeology chez Rowcliffe unearths new
evidence of winner at Draycott Manor 2009 ...
Last year Harry Rowcliffe won the Pony Club Individual Eventing at Draycott
Manor (see entry on "Well
done 2009" page, and Harry's letter
about this), but we didn't get any photos of this. However his mother,
Carol, has found the following photographs while cleaning the kitchen
and has asked me to publish them. She writes:
"I enclose three photos of my son, Harry, with his pony Darbys
Knap winning the Pony Club Individual Open Eventing Championships last
year at Draycott Manor. The XC shows them jumping clear and inside the
time, and the SJ shows them jumping clear. The double clear inside the
time meant that Harry received the Craddock Award, which was given to
only four combinations in the Open Championships from 162 entries (quite
an acheivement!). The prize-giving photo shows Harry and Darbys Knap being
awarded the Pony Club Sash, the Cooper Challenge Trophy, a training grant
with Gillian Watson (trainer of the young riders' eventing squad) and
a lovely silver salver from the sponsors, Mitsubishe Motors. A day Harry
will hold dear for the rest of his life - lucky boy!"

Dulverton West North Molton inter-branch Team
Showjumping 13th June
|
Tiverton Hunt Juniors sent two teams to this event. The 'Junior
Blue' team (Nell Baillie with new ride Foxy, Megan
and Connie Isaac and Molly Watson) convincingly won
the small open finishing on a zero score. Connie and Nell were placed
4th and 5th individually.
he 'Junior Red' team (Heidi Stevens, Nell Baillie
with Paxton and Pippa Vos) also did very well as a team of
three finishing in 3rd place. Heidi was 3rd as an individual.
The 'Blues' then tackled older rivals in the open 3'0-3'3"
class and all rode brilliantly to take 2nd place, Megan having a
lovely fast double clear to take 2nd individually, with sister Connie
a good 6th. Molly had two super rounds with just 4 faults and Nell
rode extremely well over the bigger track on her new ride 'Foxy'.
Whilst all this was happening, the 'Reds' were cleaning up in the
other ring, winning the 14 years and under. Nell was 2nd individually,
with Pippa 3rd and Heidi 6th.

The Junior Reds: Heidi with Sherbert,
Nell with Paxton and Pippa with Bella

The Junior Blues: Nell with Foxy, Megan with
Llanidan Prince, Connie with Rackenford Cruiser

Junior Team Showjumping win at Pontispool, 4th
June
|
Tiverton Hunt Juniors earned a well deserved win at Pontispool
today (4/6/10) at the Taunton Vale Harriers Branch team showjumping
competition.
Over an 'up to height' course in both arenas, the all girls' team
of Connie and Megan Isaac, Nell Baillie and
Pippa Vos, jumped brilliantly in the blistering heat to take
top spot in the open 14 years and under and had another good result
in the open 2'9"-3'0" gaining 4th place out of a field
of nine strong teams. Jose Vos had a double clear in this
class but was just out of the individual placings (which only went
to 4th!) as was Nell. Megan had 2nd place individually in the 14
and under, in which Pippa had a good double clear. Connie and Cruiser
put in another solid performance, with just 4 faults in both classes.
Congratulations to them all, and well done to Sian Brown who taught
most of them at the showjumping rally a couple of days before, and
obviously gave them some great tips!

Weston Harriers Team Showjumping, Stockland Lovell,
2nd May
Tiverton Hunt Juniors did very well at the Weston Harriers Team
showjumping event at Stockland Lovel last Sunday, 2nd May. It was
a very long day, with jumping from 8.30am until 6.00pm! Connie
and Megan Isaac had double clears in the open 14 years and
under, Nell Baillie picked up faults at the spooky 'Don't Stop'
fence, and we thought we had the class won with Pippa Vos storming
around with a fast clear when her pony Bella ducked out at the very
last jump! The team were out of the ribbons, but Megan was fourth
individually.
In the open 2'9", Connie and Megan again had good fast double
clears, Nell was desperately unlucky to roll the last pole but had
a super round, and Pippa's only mistake came at the planks. A total
of 4 faults in a fast time earned the team 3rd place, with Connie
and Megan taking fouth and fifth places individually.
The photo shows Connie, Nell, Megan and Pippa. Well done. |

|
|
Tiverton Hunt Juniors sent a team of four riders for this event,
as pictured, Megan Isaac (Prince), Connie Isaac (Cruiser),
Nell Baillie (Paxton) and Heidi Stevens (Sherbert).
Over a course that proved rather 'spooky', they were placed 5th
as a team in the 14 years and under, and Megan was 3rd individually
with a fast double clear. Connie also managed a good double clear,
but just out of the ribbons.
In the small open class, they were a little unlucky, with 4 faults

Eventers Team Showjumping, 18th Feb at Stockland
Lovell
Well done to the junior team of Megan and Connie Isaac,
Nell Baillie and Heidi Stevens for travelling to Stockland
Lovell for this event. The weather was appalling, and after the road
out of Rackenford became white with snow, I almost turned around and
went home! Anyway, the snow then turned to rain so we carried on.
All four girls braved terrible conditions, and rode very well over
an interesting course of showjumps, followed by portable xcountry
fences including a double of angled brushes, 'skinnys' and an imposing
corner in the small open class.
Heidi opened up in the 14 years and under with a super fast clear,
as did Megan, Connie had an unlucky pole at the style and Nell's pony
Paxton decided he wasn't going to give us the clear we needed so the
team finished just outside the placings on a score of 4 faults.
Nell, Connie and Megan came out again in torrential rain in the small
open, I thought they all coped extremely well, all mastering the corner,
and a lovely clear from Megan and Prince.
Then it was home, and the drying began!
